Smoothie Recipe | Featuring Indigo Herbs Vegan Smoothie Mix

Its come to that time of the month where the January blues have kicked in and most of us have given up on our New Years Resolutions. If I'm honest, I don't think any of my resolutions lasted for more than 5 days. However, I should probably stress that just because the New Year novelty has worn off by now, it shouldn't mean you should give up on the goals you set out to do. Whether its changes in your attitude towards life, work or health, theres always time to start - right now. 

Personally, I really want 2016 to be the year that I am truly happy within myself. I feel that if I have a healthy body, it will lead to a healthy mind. I know I haven't blogged in quite a while but I hope that this will motivate me to make a fresh start in all aspects in my life. I also hope to write more lifestyle posts that have elements of health and fitness to not only document my journey to the 'healthy body and healthy mind' but also motivate you guys to do the same.

What better way to start off the year with a delicious, healthy, smoothie recipe? As you may have gathered from my smoothie bowl recipe, I love these fruity drinks! There are an infinite amount of combinations you can create, adding your favourite fruits and vegetables to the mix to find your perfect drink. As I'm not really fussed, I like to just cut up any fruit that I see is about to go bad soon, or if I just have too much in my fruit bowl, and use zip-lock bags to store them in my freezer. Freezing them also saves the need to use ice especially if you don't keep any stored, and creates a thicker smoothie mixture without any of that extra water.

1 cup Frozen Banana
1 cup Frozen Apples
1/2 cup Frozen Melon
1 cup Milk (I used almond but you can use whichever you prefer)

In any smoothie mixture, I like to use frozen banana to create that delicious creaminess to it, along with some milk and fruits that are mostly made of water (In this case I used apples and melons). Unfortunately I didn't have any vegetables or else I would have added a handful of spinach or half a carrot to the mixture. It tastes so good, you just have to try it! Of course, add or remove any fruits you wish but just try having a go in getting into the habit of smoothie drinking as it is so nutritionally dense and good for your hair, body, skin and overall health. 
As I didn't have any vegetables to hand, what I did have was this Indigo Superfood Mix Powder. You're simply meant to add it to your smoothie mix and to make the perfect post or pre-workout drink. Not only is it vegan but it is a 100% blend of pure botanical ingredients. It is also high in protein, dietary fibre, vitamins A, E, C & B2 and is also high in calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. At £6.99 for 100g, it is a pretty good price for the quality of product you get. I just add it along with my frozen fruit and milk, then blend it all together in my trusty Nutri-Blend. Whilst it does change my drink to a bright green colour making it look like I've created an uber-healthy green smoothie, it doesn't affect the taste much although I do taste a hint of herbs in comparison to the usual fruitiness. It still tastes just as delicious, just with more nutrients!  

I absolutely love having this drink in the mornings and unlike my usual bowl of Cheerios, this actually keeps me full until lunchtime. I also feel a nice burst of energy, probably with all that delicous fruit and superfood nutrition. I really hope that I keep up this healthy eating and make a positive change to my lifestyle.
